If My Grandma Were To Cook You Lunch and Dinner Series
AS A CHILD, I'D GO OUT INTO MY ABUELA JULIA'S BACKYARD LOOKING FOR SOME MAGIC, AS FAR AS MY IMAGINATION MIGHT TAKE ME...
My Abu could always see me from the kitchen window and called me inside to help in the kitchen with her own kind of magic.
The smell of bread coming out of her “horno de barro” or the sound of a knife cutting fresh pasta always takes me back to my precious childhood. As I grew up, I realize now, she was not only feeding my belly but my soul and my path that eventually will take me to recreate that cozy and warm atmosphere here in Philadelphia.
I conceived the If My Grandma Were To Cook For You Lunch and Dinner Series to bring the Abuelas, Nonnas and Mawmaws magical meals we shared with those strong women that raised us.
I’m happy to announce that the Series will feature fantastic chefs and cooks from diverse walks of life willing to share their own personal experiences through food, creating simple but amazing meals that come from memories sitting at a family table as children.
The Series will take place at Jezabel’s on the third Friday of each month, starting on March 15 with a very good friend of mine that inspires me and happens to be one of the most talented chefs in Philadelphia, the one and only Cristina Martinez of South Philly Barbacoa.
I hope to see you at my table.!
